Vocational training centres in Nyamira county will be transformed into NYS training centres fully equipped by the national government, Public Service CS Moses Kuria has said.

He said VTCs are going to be linked with the National Youth Service for a partnership in training and equipment across the country under the NYS-VTC Mashinani programme to be rolled out soon.

Kuria and local leaders also checked on the progress of the affordable housing project and the proposed industrial park at Sironga in West Mugirango constituency.

The CS was with West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka, Governor Amos Nyaribo and County Commissioner Erastus Mbui among other leaders.

Kuria the government wants to establish a partnership between county governments and the national government through the NYS to help vocational colleges grow.

“We are committed to fulfilling our promise as the national government to ensure that our youths get training in technical skills that will help them develop our country and themselves,” Kuria said.

The CS said digital hubs for online remote jobs shall be set up at the centres across the county to help youths get part-time or full employment.

West Mugirango MP Mogaka urged the national government to help revive VTCs in the county so that the youths can acquire skills to develop the county and the nation.

“It is discouraging that the vocational training centres in our county are not operational despite huge resources that have been pumped in. That is why we call upon the national government to help us revive the vocational training colleges so that our youths can gain technical skills that will enable them get employment in and outside the country,” Mogaka said.

Governor Nyaribo said his government is committed to ensuring all youths get technical training and called upon the national government to support in establishing and equipping more vocational colleges.

“Our youthful population needs technical training that will help them gain skills to help them generate employment and be independent. That is why as leaders we are calling on the national government to help us establish and equip more of these colleges for our sons and daughters,” the county boss said.
