Postal Corporation of Kenya popularly known as Posta plans to conduct a door to door delivery of goods and services.

Chairperson Rose Nyamunga said the plan is part of the wider transformation agenda to make the corporation more vibrant and profitable.

It seeks to digitise payment and bring services closer to Kenyans.

The initiative will also help create job opportunities for the youth.

“Clients will be communicated to through SMS about the arrival of their good. They will then be required to pay electronically before the delivery,” Nyamunga said.

The corporation also plans to register all Kenyans and have their addresses in its data base.

“Once implemented, every citizen will have a post office box,” she said.

The addressing system will make the door to door delivery system efficient.

“This initiative will also apply to people who do their shopping online because the addressing system will help identify them and deliver goods to them,” she said.

Last month, ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo promised to turn Posta around.

He said he will help the corporation move away from the traditional courier business to e-commerce and logistics business. Posta has the widest network of facilities.

Owalo said the ministry is about to acquire a partner for an e-commerce platform .

“I am turning around that entity with the support of everybody around,” he said.

Owalo said Posta is already doing last mile delivery of passports, medical supplies and the Star newspaper.
