Development projects within Nyanza will be fully completed - PS Omollo

Already the government has secured Sh1.45 billion to construct fish landing sites at Lake Victoria.

Nyanza Residents have been assured that the various infrastructural projects launched by President William Ruto administration will be fully completed

Interior Principal Secretary  Raymond Omollo on Friday emphasized that the President's development agenda for the region remains on course.

PS Omollo highlighted that the projects in the region, particularly in Homa Bay County, are part of President Ruto’s plan to improve the economy and transform how places are connected.

Speaking in Kaswanga village in Rusinga during the burial of Mama Beldina Wakiaga, Omollo specifically mentioned the 53-kilometer ring road in Mfangano Island, Homa Bay County, stating that the first phase to make it drivable is progressing well.

He pointed out that the second phase, launched by the President will include tarmacking, making the road crucial for boosting economic activities around the island.

"Already, the Rusinga ring road too has been awarded and three contractors are on site. Once completed it will enable locals on the island to travel with ease," Omollo added.

Additionally, the PS pointed out that improving rural roads will open up the region to more investment and make it easier to get products to markets.

Omollo guaranteed that the government is determined to make positive changes in the blue economy. He mentioned the ongoing rehabilitation of Mbita, Homa Bay, and Kendu Bay piers, describing it as a revolutionary move.

The government is also working on modernizing fish landing sites along Lake Victoria, aiming to enhance the fishing sector, which has faced various challenges in the past.

Already the government has secured Sh1.45 billion to construct fish landing sites at Lake Victoria.

The money will be used to build 10 fish landing sites in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay and Busia counties.

The sites will be in Ogal (Kisumu), Asat (Kisumu), Nyandhiwa (Homa Bay), Nyakula (Homa Bay), Mainuga (Homa Bay), Got Kochola (Migori) , Sori (Migori), Gumbe (Busia), Wichlum (Siaya) and Asembo (Siaya).

Once completed, the landing sites will act as aggregation centres where fisherfolk will have enough cold storage facilities to keep their catch as they scout for markets.
