A clan elder from Manga in Nyamira County was by Tuesday receiving medication at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after his wife reportedly used a hammer to smash his head.

The man, 50, also lost his left eye during the night scuffle in Nyaboterere village.

The eye has since been gouged out after surgery.

Doctors said the eye's nerves were destroyed beyond repair necessitating the removal.

The wife had initially accused him of having an affair with other women in the villages culminating in a squabble that occasioned the fight.

"She had recently accused me of dating women and that I was depleting our family income on them, accusations that are base and false," he told journalists from his hospital bed.

The decision to sell part of his land and bank the money which they were to use to pay tuition for their children in university and colleges ignited more suspicion from the wife, he added.

This, he added, forced him to withdraw it and bring the entire amount home in a box.

"It appears she could not take it in that I had banked the cash for our children and instead begun going around accusing me falsely among my children that I had taken it to concubines," he said.

"To make peace I went and brought all the Sh260,000 and handed it to her. I suspect this has a hand in the attempt on my life, " he said from his hospital bed Tuesday evening.

The man now says he fears he could suffer long-term paralysis due to the injuries and appeals to wellwishers to help him get money for his children after the wife escaped with the money.

Police are already pursuing the woman.
