Nyong’o, who was admitted to the hospital on Friday, said the surgery went extremely well and praised the management and doctors for the good work.
“Everything has gone extremely well and I am grateful to the hospital's Chief executive officer Dr George Rae and his team for taking very good care of me,” he said.
Nyong’o said the surgery has given him tremendous relief on his nerves, which were being compressed by tissue stenosis in a condition known as Cauda Equina Syndrome.
He was discharged on Saturday and is recovering very well.
Nyong’o, who did not attend the Azimio public rally on Friday in Kisumu, resumed his normal duties on Monday.
Nyong’o said the visiting neurosurgery team led by Dr Bethwel Raore from Atlanta, together with the JOOTRH team have proven that with adequate skill development, complex surgeries can be performed successfully in Kisumu.
The neurosurgery team have been visiting JOOTRH regularly, annually for the past five years.
“We are very grateful for their commitment,” the governor said.
Nyong’o commended the ICU nurses especially Nurse Vincent Odingo for being very caring and professional.
He said he was warmly received and advised on his care by the intensive care unit (ICU) team led by Dr Babu.
The governor said he was well guided by nutritionist, Mary Oguta on what to eat for the first 24 hours.
He asked county medical services executives Dr Gregory Ganda and Dr Rae to continue enhancing the health services in the county.
“We want our people to get the best health care possible at affordable and accessible rates,” Nyong’o said.
He noted that with the existing resources, both human and technical, they have the capacity to treat conditions that sometimes locals spend huge outside the county and country.
He praised the hospital and was proud to give his stamp of approval to the health services they provide.
