President William Ruto has called on residents from Luo Nyanza to embrace his leadership for smooth implementation of development projects in the region.

Ruto said his style of leadership is that which approaches and tackles different issues bedeviling the residents and other Kenyan communities.

He noted that his administration has a development master plan that will transform the four lake region counties and realize their economic development.

The counties are Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya and Mogori.

The president on Saturday said that his intention to improve the economic standards of Nyanza residents makes his opponents criticize his visits to the region.

Since he was elected in office, President Ruto has visited Homa Bay County four times.

“Our visits in Nyanza and economic agenda for the people are deliberate. We want to upset the status quo and that’s why I want Nyanza people to embrace this approach of leadership,” Ruto said.

The President asked residents to refrain from the anti-government protests called by opposition leaders.

He explained that the economic situation of a place is changed by a better policy but not protests.

“I appreciate Nyanza leaders who have made a decision to work with us so as to change the politics of ethnicity and improve the lives of Kenyans. We’re working with all willing leaders without any discrimination,” Ruto added.

According to President Ruto, his administration has set aside sh300 million to construct a fish market in Homa Bay and more than sh1 billion to construct piers in Mbita, Kendu Bay and Homa Bay before it buys a ferry for lake transport.

Early this year, he launched the construction of 110 units of affordable houses in Homa Bay town.

The national government is expecting to build 5000 units of such houses in Homa Bay County.

“The Finance Bill 2023 is being opposed because it will deny them an opportunity to misuse youths. The crisis caused by street protests is meant to disrupt the government agenda,” Ruto added.

Gachagua said the appointment of Omollo as the PS for Interior is an indication that President Ruto means well for the people of Luo Nyanza.

He argued that the post has previously been given to communities which overwhelmingly voted for president.

“The people of Nyanza should return the favour and keep the good friendship President Ruto has shown them. Let’s work together and develop together,” Gachagua said.

Interior PS Owalo told the Luo community to change their politics and embrace the current administration of Kenya Kwanza on grounds that it is not discriminatory.

He said they will continue delivering development projects in Nyanza despite the opposition politics.

“We’ll bring this government closer to you if you can’t join it,” Owalo added.
