Kenya Union of  Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have called for justice following the killing of a teacher within Kisumu county over alleged domestic squabbles.

Kisumu Kuppet executive Secretary Zablon Awange noted that they want the matter investigated thoroughly and the murderer charged.

Awange said that the deceased Mercy Dache a teacher at Thurdibuoro secondary school died a painful death in the hands of a person known to her.

"We are getting some information here and there concerning this case and we call upon the authority to ensure that no evidence is tampered with in this case."

He noted that there was a CCTV in the house and the security agencies should review this and get to the truth of the matter.

Awange noted that it was unfortunate that teachers within the county continue to lose their lives to perpetrators of violence.

"We have issues we are dealing with including economic rampage affecting not only the citizens but teachers and now the issue of insecurity, this is too much for us to bare."

He added that as a union, they join the teachers of Thurdibuoro in mourning the loss of one of their own, a young teacher who has left behind three young children who still need constant attention.

"We are not going to rest until justice is served swiftly and decisively"

Police in Kisumu are holding the suspect, the deceased husband, with investigations into the matter ongoing.

Earlier Nyakach sub-county, police commander Daniel Chacha said the suspect was arrested at Bliss Medical Centre in Kisumu on Tuesday.

The suspect allegedly attacked the wife, using a panga causing her multiple severe injuries on Monday night.

“We received reports from the school principal that one of his teachers had been attacked at her residence,” Chacha said.

Chacha said the suspect had visited the wife at her residence before a domestic quarrel ensued.

“The preliminary reports from the house help indicate that the suspect had travelled from Nairobi to visit them,” he said.

The police visited the scene and found the deceased had been rushed by her friends to Katito medical hospital.

The police boss said the deceased was then referred to Bliss Medical Hospital in Kisumu where she was pronounced dead while on treatment on Tuesday.
