Homa Bay clerics have urged parents to monitor children and keep them away from immorality, during the festive season.

The clerics want parents to be responsible.

Many schools have already closed for the December holidays.

This paved the way for candidates in Grade 6, Std 8 and Form 4 to undertake their national exams.

Led by Samuel Adede Ongola and Daniel Okumu of Agano Ark of the Covenant Church, the clerics want parents to stop their children from going to night discos.

“Provide proper guidance to children and closely monitor their peer groups and what they watch on social media sites,” he said.

“Many adolescent girls have been impregnated when attending night discos. We shouldn’t continue witnessing such due to abdication of duties by parents,” Ongola said.

Speaking in Rusinga Island ward, Suba North, the clerics expressed concerns that some parents have lost touch with their children.

Okumu said children need to be closely monitored to prevent them from falling into traps of predators who violate their rights. He asked the government to ban night discos and other activities that promote social ills.

He spoke when they started a week-long commemoration of 40 years of the church's existence in Homa Bay

Clergy Omonya from Mt Elgon in Bungoma is also attending the commemoration.

“We cannot win the war against teen pregnancies if parents are left behind. They should also take parental responsibility of help children,” Okumu said.

“Young children should know that learning does not end at sitting national exams.”

During long holidays, many adolescents fall prey to sex pests and drug abuse which ruin their feature lives.

Engaging in immoral practices has led to minors getting impregnated and contracting HIV.

Studies have revealed that child molestation is rampant during holidays due to society's social behaviour.
