Siaya MCAs approve Orengo's CEC nominees

By way of acclamation, majority of the ward reps cleared all nominees to assume office

Siaya county assembly has unanimously approved all the 10 CEC nominees forwarded by Governor James Orengo.

However, the House Committee on appointments still maintained that the nominees were inadequate in certain requirements and recommended that the appointing authority should in future adhere to relevant laws.

The laws include the Constitution of 2010, Section 35 of the County Governments Act 2012, Public Appointments (County Assemblies Approval) Act 2017 and other applicable statutes.

By way of acclamation, majority of the MCAs cleared the nominees to assume office.

North Alego MCA Vincent Odawa said he is a Christian and cannot paint individuals who are black as white.

The nominees who are now waiting to be sworn into office include Agunda Ochanda (Governance and Administration), Benedict Abonyo Omollo (Finance and Economic Planning), Dr Martin Odhiambo K'Onyango (Health Services) and Dr Caroline Onyango (Water Sanitation Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources).

Others are George Odhiambo Nyang'iro (Public Works, Roads Energy and Transport), and Sylvester Odhiambo K'Okoth (Agriculture Irrigation Food and Livestock).

Dr Edgar Ouko Otumba (Education, Youth Affairs, Gender and Social Services), Grace Agola (Trade, Enterprise and Industrialization), Maurice McOrenge (Lands Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development) and Angeline Atieno Oduor (Tourism, Culture, Sports and Arts).

Despite being approved some ward reps claimed the nominees lacked experience, lied to the appointments committee and lacked knowledge of the portfolios awaiting them.
