Security officers in Homa Bay are searching for four guns and 110 bullets which were stolen from Kipasi police post in Mbita subcounty.
Unknown people broke into the police post on Wednesday night, stole the weapons.
The suspects broke into the armory through the window and stole the weapons.
Weapons stolen included an AK47 riffle, three G3 riffles and 110 rounds of ammunition.
The police could not explain the exact time when the incident occurred but it is believed the theft happened on Wednesday night.
Speaking to journalists at the police post on Thursday, the county police commandant Samson Ole Kine said they have put modalities in place to recover the weapons.
He said they have intensified the search to retrieve the stolen weapons.
“We treat the incident as break in and burglary because they broke a steel window.We have made arrangements to get the weapons back,” Kine said.
The police boss told residents to collaborate with officers in tracing the weapons.
He said loss of such weapons is a threat to security of the area.
“The criminals can misuse the guns hence there is need for residents to cooperate and help us get them back. Let them provide us with information on the whereabouts of the weapons,” Kine said.
Officers from the DCI, regular police and national government administration officialshave joined the search party.
