Youths in Lugari subcounty want the new county administration and the national government leaders to fill in qualified youths in different positions as a way of preparing them for future challenging tasks.

The youths believe that once they are given some responsibilities to play in government, it would form a key basis for future key roles.

While speaking in Mwamba, Wycliffe Lugadiru, a youth leader, challenged the new elected leaders not to ignore giving youths under 35 years some positions, saying that the move will encourage them to have confidence in the government.

Lugadiru expects the new Kakamega county leadership to lead by example and give the youths space by appointing them to serve in different capacities in the administration.

He exuded confidence that the youths will post exemplary performance if they are mentored early in different job capacities.

Lugadiru said that youths cannot be ignored anymore because they form a greater percentage of the electorate who determine which leaders should be voted.

He expressed regret that the rate of unemployment among the youths is alarming nationally, a scenario he described as disturbing and needs immediate attention.

“Having youths in different positions in government is key because they will be part of decision making to create more jobs for them,” he said.

The youth leader further said that other non-governmental agencies should consider giving the positions within their organisations.

He suggested a law that compels government and non-state employing institutions to have a certain percentage of youths in their workforce.

Meanwhile, Lugari subcounty People with Disability coordinator Jeremiah Chamwa has called on the county and national government elected leaders to fulfil their pledges.

Chamwa wants the leadership, especially at the county government to ensure resources meant for the PWD reach them without fail.

The PWD coordinator asked the elected MCAs to ensure their issues are considered.

He expressed regret that resources meant for PWD in the past have landed in the wrong hands because nobody was responsible during delivery.

Chamwa, however, pleaded with their elected representatives, both in the National Assembly and county assemblies to advocate for the rights of PWD through enactment of laws that protects them.

He further asked the President-elect William Ruto's government to protect gains of PWD at the national level.
