Homa Bay residents have every reason to celebrate following the purchase of drugs worth Sh60 million by new Governor Gladys Wanga.
Governor Wanga flagged off the first batch of the drugs at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
She was accompanied by Deputy Governor Joseph Magwanga, the hospital’s CEO Kevin Osuri and health workers.
“We are pleased that in line with our promises to the people of Homa Bay, we have begun to move in the direction of ensuring we have medicines in our facilities. We have received supplies from Kemsa for the referral hHospital and our subcounty facilities,” she said.
The governor confirmed that another batch of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceutical commodities is expected by next week and will be dispatched to dispensaries and health centres.
She clarified that the move was not for publicity or politics, adding: “We want to tell our people that we are serious about their healthcare. We are going to take it seriously and even our budget will reflect that.”
Wanga said Homa Bay referral hospital’s renal unit has also been stocked with the necessary drugs and that residents should not hesitate to go for dialysis.
“When you come to the renal unit at any given time, you should be able to receive dialysis services according to the schedule,” she said.
She reiterated that if one is turned away while seeking services at the unit, they should reach her office through a number written on the door for her to take the necessary action.
The residents, she added, are now able to receive laboratory services including basic tests as the laboratory section has also been fully stocked.
The deputy governor assured that within the first 100 days, all health facilities in the county will have adequate supply of drugs.
“I want to assure that we are committed to ensure drugs are available 24/7 in our health facilities so that our people are able to get services without fail,” Magwanga said.
He urged the management to streamline the stock management to ensure that drugs reach the right people.
Osuri thanked the county government for prompt supply of drugs.
"We are very pleased that the county government, under the leadership of Hon Gladys Wanga and her deputy, has assisted and expedited our request for medicines. We have received a sizable consignment of both pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals that will take us through a period of two months,” he said.
