IEBC will send satellite phones to Migingo Island to help transmit results from the 49 registered voters.

The Migori county returning officer Ben Moseti said they have procured for boats to transport election material, staff and security to the Lake Victoria island.

In the last polls, IEBC had five staff, a deputy presiding officer and four clerks and a contingent of police officers.

Voting on the island in 2017 was delayed after a standoff between Kenyan and Ugandan forces.

Across the county, a total of 1,017 vehicles will be used in polling centres to transport election materials.

“We have already created a special security plan to access the island and make the process smooth,” Moseti said.

Moseti was addressing the press at his office in Migori town on Monday.

“The satellite phone to Migingo is part of other materials that will be issued in remote stations to help in election results transmission, he said.

"We have contacted Kenya Power for an uninterrupted supply of electricity  and we also have standby generators for smooth operation."

He said Migori has 378 candidates for five elective posts across 40 wards and eight constituencies with a total of 469,053 voters including 34 in prisons.

On Monday, the county IEBC officials started training 2,034 presiding officers and their deputies.

On August 5, they will also train 6,102 polling station clerks.

“We have also trained police chiefs on electoral security and on how to maintain peace and will train junior officers further as we plan to use 2,014 officers," he said.

"We will have two officers to cover each poling station and 20 in tallying centres,” he said.

He said the police will also provide officers on patrol including the General Service Unit to curb any case of insecurity or violence.

He said so far they were sure the election transmission will be smooth as candidates have provided their chief agents for training.

He called on voters to turn out in large numbers to vote.
