Police yet to arrest videographer who filmed man beating woman in viral video

The hearing of a case of the man whose video went viral while assaulting a woman was Tuesday postponed to August 19 after police failed to record statements from an accomplice of the assaulter.

The State's attorney Kubebea Barasa said that the man who recorded Justus Oduor Okoth 24, as he assaulted Immaculate Akinyi, 24, in the Nyadorera area of Siaya County was yet to be arrested and charged. 

Barasa told Siaya Law courts Chief Magistrate Margret Wambani, that he was yet to receive statements from police and sought more time before proceeding with the case.

Okoth, who was arrested in Nakuru while escaping, denied the charges and was released on a bond pending the full hearing.

Akinyi had told the court that Oduor beat her mercilessly while his friend was recording the cruelty using a smartphone.

Akinyi narrated that Oduor had claimed that she, together with Oduor's ex-girlfriend, talked ill about him.

It was Oduol who proceeded to post the video online, Akinyi had informed the court.

Judge Wambani, has since advised the aggrieved parties to seek an alternative meditation channel, if possible, to settle the matter out of court.
