A 26-year-old man in Ndhiwa is suspected of taking his life by jumping into River Kuja.

Children who saw him going to the river on Tuesday said they thought he was going to bathe.

They said he removed his clothes and shoes when he reached the river bank and jumped into the water.

Chief Moses Ongong’a said the children expected him to resurface, but he did not.

After he failed to resurface, the children went home and reported the matter to their mother.

“He was seen by children who were expecting that he would get out of the water but he sank and none of them saw him again,” the chief said.

Ongong’a said the man had been rescued in three incidents of attempted suicide.

“He had domestic issues. He previously threatened to take his own life in three different instances, but he was restrained,” the administrator said.

His relatives and friends reported the matter to the police and started searching for the body.

Ongong’a urged residents to seek guidance and counselling instead of taking their own lives.

“Let us seek counselling services whenever we are faced with difficulties in society instead of resorting to killing ourselves,” Ongong’a said.

The administrator said police are investigating the matter.
