Ugenya MP David Ochieng has withdrawn his support for Nicholas Gumbo and instead thrown his weight behind Senator James Orengo in the Siaya governor race.

Ochieng has been a staunch supporter of Gumbo, a former Rarieda MP, who is vying for governor. Together, they had previously vowed to teach ODM a lesson come August 9 polls.

However, after Ochieng joined Azimio la Umoja with his Movement for Democratic Growth, Gumbo left the party and joined UDM on whose ticket he will contest for the position.

Gumbo will be deputised by former police spokesperson Charles Owino who quit the race and ODM to join him.

However, over the weekend, the Ugenya MP rallied behind Orengo in the areas he visited within Ugenya constituency where he was distributing seeds and farm inputs worth Sh16 million to farmers.

He said the person they were supporting for the position under MDG has left hence the only other candidate from Ugenya vying for the position is Orengo and they will support him.

Ochieng claimed he knows that some of the residents don’t like Orengo, particularly on development track record, among other issues.

He said as Ugenya people will call Orengo for a meeting and tell him what they expect from him.

“We must tell him what we need. We will also give him a warning because a person like me, ever since I was elected, I have moved across the constituency doing various development projects," he said.
