Widows in Nyaribari Chache, Kisii county, have received a boost from the area MP Richard Tong'i to help them start small businesses.

At least Sh1. 4 million was raised in a brief fundraiser as seed capital for table banking.

Tong'i said widows would be trained on starting businesses.

He said the widows remain among the marginalised groups and thus the constant need to reach out to them.

"These are people who had been deprived of their livelihoods through death and sorely need this kind of help," Tongi said.

The widows will begin accessing funds to start small enterprises once the table banking concept is operationalised.

The function held at the Agricultural Training Centre in Kisii on Monday evening was attended by Senator Sam Ongeri, who is also vying for governorship position.

Ongeri vouched for Gusii unity, saying the community would achieve little if it remains disunited.

Separately, hundreds of villagers in Nyaguta and Otamba received free dental services courtesy of businessman James Kenani.

Doctors from Dentists of Africa attended to those who turned up.

Kenani, who is aspiring for MP post, said the rising costs for dental treatment makes it difficult for most villagers to take care of their teeth.

He separately urged the residents to turn up in large numbers to register as voters ahead of the 2022 polls.

Kenani further urged for peaceful campaigns.

"We should not hate each other because of politics, or fight just because we are chasing after political ambitions," Kenani said.
