Kisumu-based businessman Deo Owalla has declared interests to vie for Kisumu Central MP seat in 2022 polls.

Owalla, popularly known as “Wuod Nyanaya”, becomes the latest aspirant to join the already crowded list of those seeking to oust incumbent Fred Ouda who is serving his first term in the August House.

This comes as political leaders position themselves for the seat in the next general election. Owalla has interests in transport, hospitality and real estate sectors.

He said he wants to bring new inclusive leadership to tackle challenges facing the constituents.

Owalla said most of the youths in Kisumu Central have no jobs and his priority will be to help them get loans to start businesses.

Apart from his charitable work background, Owalla said he is banking on his link with the youth and women to capture the seat.

“I am banking on my charitable work background and support to the youth, women and vulnerable group in the area to help me clinch the seat,” he said.

He has also been meeting business groups drawn from the constituency and church members to woo them.

Owalla pledged to initiate programmes that will better the well-being of the vulnerable group and promote their healthcare services through insurance schemes.

"I am not out to gain as MP but to ensure our people live better and are able to meet their basic needs,” he said.

Others eyeing the seat include businessman and philanthropist Joshua Oron, Elijah Oburu, lawyer Kenneth Amondi and businessman Kevin Kwere. They have been crisscrossing the constituency to popularise their bids ahead of the 2022 polls.
