Mwingi Central MP hopeful Gideon Mulyungi on Thursday won the repeat Wiper nominations.
He had won the initial polls, but the court ordered the exercise be repeated in the 19 polling stations that did not vote.
In the repeat polls, Mulyungi garnered 15,833 votes against rival and former LSK chairman Eric Mutua, who got 7,023.
Returning officer Francis Kivindu said the repeat process was fair and much stricter than the last vote.
The nominations started at 9am and ended at 7pm. The tallying went on past midnight.
Mulyungi will run against Samuel Makau of CCU, Joe Mutambu of the Jubilee Party, Julius Mutukaa from Narc and Musikali Mutemi, an independent candidate. Mutua had sued Mulyungi after the last nominations, citing irregularities. He said the results should be declared null and void.
Mutua was not available to comment on whether he had conceded defeat.
Mulyungi is a former Public Works PS.
During the initial polls, Mutemi and Mutua garnered 3,587 and 1,086, votes respectively. Mulyungi got 11, 676.
Mutua had said, “It is a matter of concern the whole of Nuu ward didn’t vote because there were no ballot materials.”
