Cord leader Raila Odinga has asked governors from Luo Nyanza to use cultural festival to unite the community ahead of 2017.

Raila said such festivals will strengthen unity among the community as they revive the lost traditions and cultural actives.

He told governors Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Jack Ranguma (Kisumu), Okoth Obado (Migori) and Cornel Rasanga (Siaya) to ensure such festivals are held every year.

Raila said the Luo culture is slowly dying out and called for urgent intervention by elders and governors.

He spoke on Saturday during the opening of the first Luo Cultural Festival at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground in Kisumu town.

The former Prime Minister said Luo traditions and culture should be preserved for future generations.

“Our younger generation should learn their traditions and culture in a well-structured manner,” Raila said.

He said the community should use its rich culture to fight HIV-Aids and promote growth.

The opposition leader said a nation without culture and tradition is lost.
