KISUMU Governor Jack Ranguma’s wife Olivia has called on the government to assist people living with disability.

Speaking in Menara in Muhoroni subcounty on Wednesday, Olivia said affirmative action should be introduced to ensure effective support for the disabled.

She presented blankets, soap and food to disability groups from four wards in Muhoroni.

Olivia urged people living with disability to compete for positions and play their role in development.

“We have seen a former US President ruling while still on a wheel chair. With the support of the government and the community, we know you can make it,” Olivia said. She pledged to establish an office for the disabled to cater for their needs.

Olivia urged Kisumu residents to educate their disabled children.

She said children living with disability, especially girls, are vulnerable to sex predators and ought to be protected from them.

Olivia was with Education executive Jenipher Kere.
