An NGO in Rarieda constituency is giving nursery schoolchildren shoes to stop jigger infestation.

Netto Adhola Foundation director said jiggers have infested parts of Siaya county due to poor sanitation and hygiene.

Netto Adhola, a businessman in Nairobi, said little effort is being made to fight the vermin “yet it has almost become a county disaster”.

He spoke on Monday at Kanyichudo Primary School in Rarieda, where he donated more than 130 pairs of shoes to nursery pupils.

Adhola said the programme will stop jiggers from spreading further in that region.

He urged leaders and professionals from across the county to join hands and fight the menace.

Adhola said they do not have to wait for well-wishers and organisations from outside the region to help.

He praised the Siaya government’s infrastructure improvement programme for Early Childhood and Development Education centres.

Adhola urged the education department to equip classrooms to create a conducive learning environment.
