Kenyan singer Avril, rappers Wangechi and Jua Cali and the sensational trio Elani will feature in the forthcoming third season of the Pan-African TV music show, Coke Studio.
The Kenyan acts will be joined by other artistes from around the continent. They include Nigeria’s 2Face Idibia, Uganda’s Jose Chameleone, Tanzania’s Ali Kiba and Mozambique’s Neyma and Dama Do Bling. Nigerian singer Yemi Alade and Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee will be returning to the show after participating in season two.
The show, which seeks to bring together and showcase the diversity of African musical talent, will for the first time see artistes collaborate in “mash-ups” format — the latest trend in the global music industry.
“Our objective is to reinvent the way music captures the imagination and heart of our continent. Coke Studio Season 3 will not only celebrate our local African grown music talent but also create unique collaborations that we believe our consumers and our audience want to hear,” says Coca-Cola senior brand manager Otome Oyo.
Grammy Award winning musician and producer Zwai Bala (of the ground-breaking South African group TKZee) will be the show’s music director. Brett Lotriet, a renowned international TV director and producer, will be the show’s producer. Other producers will include Kenya’s Jaaz Odongo, Eric Musyoka and Kevin Provoke, Nigeria’s Cobhams Asuquo, Masterkraft and Chopstix, Owour Arunga from USA, Tanzania’s Nahreel and Silvastone from the UK.
