Parents and guardians in Eldas constituency have been urged to prioritise education to break the cycle of poverty.

MP Adan Keynan said education is the only key to equality and development.

He spoke when he officially launched the Sh41 million Constituency Development Fund bursary programme for needy learners in secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

The funds were disbursed to support deserving learners for secondary and tertiary institutions.

“Education remains the most powerful tool we can use to break the cycle of poverty, it is the only way to unlocking chains of illiteracy. We all have a role to play in safeguarding the future of our children,” Keynan said.

He said his administration remains solidly determined to remove the barriers that hinder access to quality education.

Keynan said his commitment to education goes beyond bursaries and extends to creating equal and fair opportunities for every child to realise their dreams.

“The bursary fund is just one pillar of a broader plan to safeguard the quality of education in our schools. My office will continue working closely with school boards, parents and education partners to deliver results that matter because when we invest in education, we invest in peace, progress and prosperity for all,” he said.

Wajir Senator Abass Sheikh Mohamed urged all partners to remain steadfast in ensuring they walk together to promote education.

“As we all know, it takes two to tangle. On matters education the MP can only do so much. As parents, teachers and students, we must also play our part to ensure we take our children to school. Teachers must also give their,”  he said.

Mohamed Hussein, a parent, thanked the MP for his continuous investment in education, saying every shilling disbursed is a step closer to a literate, skilled and self-reliant generation with ambition and purpose.

He lashed out at those calling for the transfer of the NG CDF to counties, saying the move would be catastrophic.

Hussein said the fund has had a significant positive impact on lives and livelihoods of many Kenyans, especially the poor.

“We hear some leaders say CDF is not helping at the grassroots. Some even have the audacity of calling for its county kitty. This fund should be left to the MPs. It has supported major sectors, especially education," he said.

The event was attended by local leadership led by Eldas South subcounty deputy county commissioner Simon Mokua and a host of MCAs.
