Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo has urged the government to install more measures to curb insecurities in the county.

The Governor said that the above can be made possible through collaboration between the National and county governments.

Speaking on Friday, Guyo said he is committed to continue working closely with the Ministry of Interior to ensure insecurity is eradicated in Isiolo.

As a result, he requested the establishment of an Anti-Stock Theft Unit camp at the Biliqo Marara and Yamicha locations in Merti sub-county.

Also, Guyo stated that setting up buffer zones along the borders of Wajir, Isiolo, and Garissa counties will assist in deterring insecurities in Isiolo.

“This I do believe, will not only boost security but also boost investors' confidence hence improve the economic status of our people,” he said.

Guyo was speaking during the inauguration of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Camp in the Mlango area, Burat Ward. It was commissioned by Interior CS Kindiki.

“Mlango area has for many years experienced rampant insecurity that has been characterized by cattle rustling, loss of innocent lives and destruction of property. But through collaboration with the national government the matter has now been addressed,” Guyo noted.

Isiolo Deputy Governor Joseph Lowasa, Senator Fatuma Dulo, Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya, and members of the Eastern Regional and Isiolo County Security and Intelligence Committee were in attendance.

The Governor thanked President William Ruto for his unwavering support in the journey to ensure Isiolo people are safe and perpetrators of cattle rustling are dealt with accordingly.

On his side, CS Kindiki made it clear that security officers are directed to ruthlessly pursue criminals and use the firearms issued to them lawfully to protect the people of Kenya and their property.

"Any armed criminal daring security officers will be sent on a one-way journey. On security, I promised you that 2023 is the year of ending livestock theft and banditry," he added.

The CS pledged that the government would establish more security camps, deploy specialised security officers and commission administrative units to bring services closer to the people.

Highlighting some strides made, Kindiki said that significant ground has been covered in tracking and neutralising armed criminals who had turned parts of North Rift Valley, Upper Eastern and Coastal regions into their territory, killing men, women and children, and impoverished them economically
