Former Mwingi town deputy administrator Daniel Muange has won the Tseikuru ward seat in Mwingi North.
Muange will take over from his rival and immediate former MCA Boniface Kasina.
Muange was declared as the MCA elect by returning officer Martin Malonza on Wednesday night. He garnered 5,521 votes ahead of his closest competitor Munyoki Kituo who had 3,555 votes.
Those in the race were Mutemi Mwenga, Kilonzo Kathuru and Kilyungi Mutua who managed 567 votes, 215 votes and 38 votes respectively.
Muange said the ward representative win did not come easy because he had to quit his job with the Kitui county government in 2021.
At the time he left the county job, he said, he had been accused of engaging in premature MCA election campaigns.
Muange who was working in Kitui on secondment from the Foreign Affairs ministry opted to return to his staple as he could not bear it.
However, he did not last long after his return as he served for only six months and as the poll drew nearer, he retired on what he described as the retire at 50 rule to fully throw his hat in the ring of the MCA contest.
He said when he sought the Wiper ticket for the Tseikuru seat, Kasina did not offer himself to face Muange in the primaries.
The surprise withdrawal from the race then gave Muange a walkover to win the party nomination and consequently went ahead to clinch the seat.
