Four suicides reported in Naivasha in four days; some victims hanged themselves.

A Naivasha trader had supper with her family on Monday night and then said she'd wash up. Her family went to bed.

Around midnight, her husband realised she wasn't in bed and went looking.

He found she had hanged herself on the clothesline at their house in Site estate.

Family and police speculated that she had accumulated a lot of debt she couldn't pay back.

It was the fourth suicide in Naivasha in 14 days.

Police expressed alarm over the rising cases of suicide.

Last week, a Class 6 student took her life in Kayole estate, then a flower farm worker in Kinamba estate and another suicide in  Kongoni area.

“We have seen an upsurge in cases of suicide in this town in the last couple of weeks involving young people and the trend is worrying,” Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said.

Meanwhile, a middle-aged man was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a speeding car along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Monday evening.

The man was crossing the busy busy highway near Raini Trading Centre when he was hit.

The OCPD said the victim had been identified and the body taken for a post-mortem.

“There was a hit-and-run accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway where we lost one man and we are seeking the driver involved," he said.
