Eldas MCA Abdi Abass has promised to prioritise the completion of the ongoing projects that were started by his late brother.

Abass was elected unopposed last month following the demise of his brother Ibrahim Abass who passed away on July 4.

Powerful political figures led by Eldas MP Aden Keynan, and elders worked behind the scenes to ensure a family member takes over the seat and is elected unchallenged.

Several people had shown interest in the seat but were prevailed upon by their respective clan elders to step down.

Speaking on Friday afternoon outside the assembly chambers after being sworn in,  Abass said that top on his agenda was to make sure that he picks on from where his late brother left in the remaining term.

“First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank each and everyone who played a role in having me elected unopposed. From family members who picked me to the area MP Aden Keynan, the elders and residents, mine is a big thank you,” he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, newly sworn-in deputy governor Hashim Musa Yussuf said the election of Abass was a clear indication that the community has trust in his leadership qualities.

“I sincerely appreciate the exemplary leadership exhibited by the people of Eldas Ward by presenting hon. Abass unopposed as a sign of respect to our departed brother. I urge others to follow suit and inculcate positive values and practices in political leadership,” he said.
