Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo yesterday launched a community radio station that will discuss how to mitigate the effects of climate change. It will be broadcast in Borana, Somali and Kiswahili languages.

It is based in Garba-Tulla, Isiolo subcounty. The station was started by a climate change consortium comprising the International Institute for Environment and Development, the Kenya Meteorological Department and the National Drought Management Authority.

The consortium has worked with the county government and NGOs – Resource Advocacy Programme and Merti Integrated Development Programme – since 2013. Doyo said a meteorological station will be built in Garba-Tulla subcounty.

Information gathered at the met station will be used by local communities to plan for disasters.
