Embu County Council of elders has called upon the Chief Justice to establishment a land and environmental court in Embu to ease burden of residents travelling to Kerugoya.

The chairman of the Embu council of elders Nyangi Ndiiriri Andrew Ireri said there are numerous land cases from Embu pending at the Kerugoya court. He said that the cases used to be heard in Embu law courts before they were transferred to Kerugoya after the new land and environmental court was established and stationed at Kerugoya.

Ireri said getting justice for the Embu residents at the Kerugoya courts has been quite expensive owing to the far distances which make them use a lot of cash for fare and other subsistence.

Ireri said that the elders have already petitioned the CJ to create a land and environment court at Embu but that it’s taking too long for the prayers to be implemented.

He said it was wrong for the land cases at the Embu courts to be immediately taken to the Kerugoya land and environmental court noting that the judge should have first finalised with the cases she found pending there.

Ireri said the constitution grants that every county should have a land and environmental court and thus the county should have one and recommended that it be constructed at Runyenjes town where he argued there is space.
