Embu public service board chair sacked, Embu county public service board’s chairman Mundia Gateria was yesterday sacked by the local assembly for demanding more salary.

Gateria who has been in office for merely two months after his employment was sacked after the assembly approved Governor Martin Wambora’s player to let him fire him.

Thus the assembly under speaker Justus Kariuki Mate rescinded its decision of approving Gateria as the chair of the service board and revoked his appointment. The assembly unanimously passed a motion which revoking approval of appointment of Gateria on 10 June 2013 as the chairman of the board after appointment by Wambora.

The approval by the assembly now leaves the Governor with no other option other than to initiate a process of appointment of another Board’s Chairman The assembly members while debating on the motion said that when Gateria appeared before the appointment committee he agreed with the term and conditions set for the job.

They said that it was unfortunate that he decided to decline his appointment citing low salary and remuneration a move that they said created tension between him and Wambora.

Council representatives said that the delay in appointing new chairman will put the county at an awkward position since the Transition Authority personnel at the county levels will be leaving their stations by the end of the month They said that there was need to employ workers to serve in the capacity which the officers of the transition authority are serving.

Leader of majority in the assembly Mbithi Musakwa who is also Mwea ward Rep said that in accordance with the standing orders of the County assembly the governor had sent a letter to the assembly asking it to revoke the appointment of the chairman.

The Speaker had communicated to the assembly the Governors intentions of seeking the help of the assembly in revoking appointment of the chairman.

Kariuki said that the move to revoke the appointment was necessitated by Gateria unending demands for a high salary and remunerations for the job.

Kariuki said that the Governor had hinted that Gateria was nagging him leading to the stalling of the ongoing interviews for vacancies for those who have sought recruitment in various positions in county.

Sources at the county government indicated that there are times when interviews for the vacancies have had to be postponed after the public service failed to meet owing to the tag of war between the chairman and the governor before the latter decided to have the former removed.
