The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has officially opened the first-ever dedicated office for the Nairobi Branch.
The office provides the union's largest branch with a permanent operational home.
“The establishment of the Nairobi Branch Office represents more than the opening of a physical workspace. It reflects KMPDU's continued commitment to building stronger institutions founded on effective systems, sound governance, accountability, and responsive member service,” the union said in a statement.
The new office is expected to enhance coordination, strengthen branch operations, improve service delivery to members, and provide a permanent centre for the union's work in Nairobi.
It also sets a new benchmark for institutional excellence and branch leadership across the country.
KMPDU congratulated the Nairobi branch leadership—Dr Bill Muriuki, Dr Maureen Gicheha, Dr Wesley Oogha, Dr Angela Nambiro, Dr Abdi Adow, Dr Ogenyaa and the entire Nairobi Branch team for delivering the significant achievement within their first month in office.
“Their leadership demonstrates the impact of focused
teamwork, strategic planning, and purposeful execution,” KMPDU said.
The union encouraged all members to fully utilise the new office as a centre for service, advocacy, professional engagement, and solidarity. It is intended to strengthen member support while fostering greater collaboration among doctors in Nairobi.
The opening of the Nairobi Branch Office marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Union's growth and reinforces KMPDU's commitment to building enduring institutions that will continue serving members for generations to come.
KMPDU is the registered trade union that represents doctors, dentists and pharmacists employed in both the public and private sectors in Kenya.
Established to safeguard the welfare and professional interests of healthcare workers, the union advocates for improved working conditions, fair remuneration, adequate staffing and quality healthcare services.
Over the years, KMPDU has played a prominent role in shaping Kenya's health sector through engagement with the national and county governments on issues affecting medical professionals.
The union has been at the forefront of pushing for the implementation of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), timely payment of salaries, employment of intern doctors, promotion of healthcare workers and increased funding for the health sector.
KMPDU has also been a vocal advocate for strengthening the country's public healthcare system, arguing that better investment in hospitals, medical equipment, essential drugs and human resources is critical to achieving universal health coverage.
While the union has occasionally resorted to industrial action to press its demands, it has consistently maintained that its ultimate goal is to improve healthcare delivery by ensuring doctors work in safe and conducive environments that enable them to provide quality patient care.
