The government has urged businesses to prioritise ethical leadership, innovation and customer service to support enterprise growth, while reaffirming its commitment to improving access to affordable credit for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
Speaking on behalf of Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSMEs Development Wycliffe Oparanya, Edward Mudibo said businesses should prioritise customer satisfaction, innovation and ethical leadership as key drivers of sustainable growth. He said the government would continue to expand access to affordable credit and create an enabling environment for MSMEs.
In a speech delivered on his behalf, Oparanya said businesses must build trust through ethical leadership while embracing innovation.
"Strong and sustainable brands are built on trust, innovation, and ethical leadership. The Government remains committed to supporting MSMEs through progressive policies, affordable credit, capacity-building programmes, and strategic initiatives such as MSME Connect and regional trade fairs that expand market access and promote enterprise growth," said Oparanya.
He also encouraged businesses to invest in their employees and create opportunities for young people and women, saying such efforts would contribute to sustainable enterprise development.
The remarks were made during the Elite Brands Awards International in Nairobi, where more than 100 organisations and individuals from over 18 African countries were recognised. The event brought together government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs and development partners.
Jubilant Stewards of Africa organised the awards in partnership with the United SMEs Association of Kenya, Pacesetters International Research and Consultancy Ltd and other partners.
According to the organisers, recipients were assessed using the Organizational Performance Index, which evaluates leadership, service delivery, operational systems, ethical conduct, innovation, customer satisfaction and contribution to society.
Jared Oundo, Executive Director of Jubilant Stewards of Africa, said the awards were intended to recognise organisations that demonstrate strong leadership and business practices.
"Today's winners represent the very best of African enterprise, innovation, and leadership. Through quality service and ethical business practices, they are helping shape a more prosperous Africa," said Oundo.
The awards recognised organisations across sectors including banking and financial services, education, technology, engineering, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, agriculture, renewable energy, real estate, retail, security services and community development.
Solar Spark Energy Kenya Ltd Chief Executive Officer Faith Nafula welcomed renewal energy award, saying it recognised the company's work in expanding access to clean energy.
On his part, Kingdom Precast Solutions Managing Director Sammy Wambua said the recognition acknowledged the company's work in precast construction technology.
