Sakaja's Dishi na County donates food to 26 shelter camps

Over 250,000 meals have been served in 26 shelter camps sheltering floods victims around Nairobi county.

The Dishi na County programme produces 184,000 meals per day against an enrollment of 360,000 children which ensures more than half of the children have access to a hot, nutritious meals.

According to Beatrice Bosibori a flood victim, the programme has been helpful to many who have been displaced.

"Our houses were flooded and we were left with no option than seek asylum in the camps,we were worried at first but we thank God Dishi Na County program has been very important to us" she says

The programme, which is aimed at feeding over 180,000 learners in Nairobi is expected to resume on Monday, May 13, as schools reopen.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has assured learners of meals as Second Term begins.

The food is cooked in various kitchens within the city and food transported to schools.

Parents are only required to pay Sh5 per learner daily, with the remainder of the costs being covered by the County Government of Nairobi.

The county is in the process of constructing an additional seven kitchens spread across seven constituencies to cover the remaining school-going children.

The county has assured parents of its commitment in ensuring that the Dishi Na County programme is successful once schools reopen.

Non profit organisation, Food for Education Foundation, is the implementing partner in charge of the Dishi na County programme that also operates in other counties including Muranga and Mombasa.
