Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his spouse Mama Margaret paid a visit to Karimenu dam in Kiambu County on Wednesday.
The two were pictured standing side by side looking at the view of the dam on Wednesday.
The former President and his family have kept off the public limelight since he vacated the office but have been making public appearances once in a while.
The dam is located in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, 75 km north of Nairobi.
The 59-metre-high dam occupies a 600-acre site.
It is one of the legacy projects of President William Ruto.
Karimenu Dam was built for Sh24 billion, with financing from the government of Kenya and the China Exim Bank.
Construction of the dam began in April 2019, but the project stalled several times following protests by residents over unsettled compensation.
By March 15, 2022, the dam was ready for collection of water.
Recently, water from the dam started spilling over and the government said it had set aside Sh150 million in the supplementary budget to compensate Gatundu North residents affected by Karimenu Dam.
Water Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Njeru said 122 people, whose properties including land and homes are on the verge of being submerged by the already full mega dam, will be compensated and relocated.
He said the process of compensating and moving the residents of Iruri, Kiriko, Gathanji and Kanyoni villages to safer areas has been initiated by the government.
Njeru was speaking on November 28 during an impromptu visit to assess the situation at the dam after the spill started on Saturday morning.
"We have established that the dam is now full and the excess water is spilling safely back to Karimenu River, therefore there's no cause for alarm," the CS noted.
"We however call on residents living downstream and especially farmers who cultivate along the river riparian to move and be extra cautious to avert a tragedy."
In the Feasibility Study and Master Plan for Developing New Water Sources for Nairobi and Satellite Towns study carried out in 2012, the dam was recommended for development as one of the sources to supply water to Ruiru-Juja towns and the adjoining areas.
The proposed Karimenu II Dam was constructed across the Karimenu River.
