The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has unveiled new electric commuter bus routes from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to several key locations in Nairobi.

This was in partnership with Metrotrans East Africa Limited and Super Metro Limited.

KAA said the move to launch electric commuter buses showcases dedication to innovation, sustainable transportation, and improved passenger services.

The Principal Secretary, of the State Department for Transport, Mohamed Daghar highlighted the advantages of the electric buses.

Daghar said electric buses have environmental benefits, are cost-effective, and have quieter operations, which create a more peaceful atmosphere for both passengers and airport staff.

KAA Board Chairman Caleb Kositany said they are committed to carbon reduction and environmental sustainability.

"As part of our green initiatives, KAA staff are actively participating in a tree-planting campaign, contributing towards the national goal of planting 2 billion trees," he said.

He added that the introduction of these electric buses marks a significant stride towards the goals of environmental stewardship and providing a seamless, eco-friendly travel experience.

He said new buses also feature improved accessibility options, including wheelchair ramps, ensuring that the services are inclusive and accessible to all.
