Sakaja calls for arrest of those who looted properties during demos

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has called for the immediate arrest of vandals who destroyed properties within the county on Monday.

“We saw people destroying public infrastructure and properties. They must be charged in a court of law," he said on Tuesday.

The county chief condemned the action terming it barbaric.

"This is not fair at all nor right at all, let’s leave politics aside. The property destroyed costed money. Funds must be made available for repair or new installation, something which was not budgeted for," Sakaja added.

“Those who took advantage and uprooted public infrastructure. I saw someone carrying the Tom Mboya Street signage, those who were captured must be charged, " Sakaja noted.

In relation to demos, police authorities said the event left 24 officers injured.

Also, more than 10 police vehicles especially in Nairobi were damaged in the clashes that took place in various places.
