Worker killed after crane collapses in Embakasi

A construction worker died after he was hit by a crane at a site in Embakasi.

Samuel Aliwa, 26, was working at the site when the motor of the crane failed and tumbled on him killing him on the spot.

Witnesses said he fell from the fourth floor of a house he was working in and fell unconscious.

He was later pronounced dead at the site.

Such accidents are common at construction sites and are blamed on among others lack of protective gear.

Police and National Construction Authority officials are investigating the Sunday incident.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera said some experts had been sent to the scene to investigate it.

Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident in which the body of a man was found at a house under construction in Mihango, Nairobi.

The body had a rope in the neck and hands tied.

The body was moved to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested after he set his house on fire following a quarrel with his wife in Komarock, Nairobi.

The suspect had quarrelled with his wife over domestic issues when he chased her out and set the house on fire.

The fire was contained by residents before the suspect was traced and arrested.

In Jamhuri, a body of a man was found on a river bank after he had been stabbed by unknown people.

Police said they were called and informed of the incident and identified him as Samuel Miyogi, 32.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Incidents of sudden deaths have been on the rise in the city.

Police are also looking for a gang that attacked and killed a 56-year-old man in a mugging incident in Clay Works area, Nairobi.

Joash Mokaya succumbed to his injuries after he was stabbed in the stomach and robbed of his valuables.

Police say the man tried to fight off the gang prompting them to stab him

They say they record up to three cases daily of sudden deaths.

Some happen in houses and others on roads.
