Nominated MP Maina Kamanda has called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to give their final word on the flagbearers of the hotly contested Nairobi seats.
Kamanda said by having many candidates, they would lose the seats to their main opponents.
He spoke in Mathare on Monday at a rally graced by top Nairobi leaders of the Azimio coalition, where singer Kelvin 'Bahati' Kioko was chased away.
Bahati who attended the rally was forced out of the meeting even before he could address his supporters.
Leaders who seemingly wanted Bahati out forced him down the car.
Bahati was seen being roughed up by a group of men even as his security detail tried to intervene.
He is one of the victims of the Nairobi zoning.
Last week, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna said Azimio had settled on the incumbent Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch to fly their flag.
Bahati had been given the Jubilee ticket for the same position and has vowed not to step down.
The Azimio zoning plan has brought infightings in the coalition.
Some candidates have said they will not step down even as they dismissed the zoning plan.
Some of the affected subcounties include Embakasi North and Makadara.
Jubilee’s Makadara candidate Mark Ndung’u has vowed not to step down for Makadara MP George Aladwa.
Ndung’u, who is currently serving as the Hamza MCA, has criticised the plan which he claims favours ODM against other affiliate parties.
He said there is a scheme by incumbent MPs and high-ranking individuals within the coalition to lock out candidates seeking various seats for the first time.
Embakasi North ODM candidate Jane Muringi said she is still in the race to unseat James Gakuya.
She dismissed reports that she has stepped down in favour of Harrison Wangoro of Jubilee.
“I am vying for this seat on the ODM ticket. I have the blessings of Raila and the President both of whom I have diligently served in government and have delivered,” Murungi said.
In 2017, Muringi run for the seat on an ODM ticket and lost to Gakuya.
Sifuna endorsed Wangoro for Embakasi North parliamentary seat and claimed Raila promised Muringi a job in his government.
Gender CAS Rachel Shebesh had said Azimio candidates affected by Nairobi zoning will serve in government if the coalition wins.
She said zoning is not meant to hurt anyone but to consolidate votes for Raila.
“We are appealing to all those who have been asked to step aside to do so in good heart. The Azimio government has a lot of opportunities to offer,” Shebesh said.
Wiper has vowed to continue with campaigns as their candidates have been cleared by the IEBC.
The party has 35 candidates seeking MCA seats and six MP aspirants.
The six include Ben Milai (Mathare), Fred Akech (Makadara), Tabitha Mutero of Kasarani, Joash Omwenga (Embakasi East), Julius Mawathe (Embakasi South) and Kamukunji aspirant.
In the Azimio line-up that was revealed in April, most incumbent ODM MPs retained their positions.
They include Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), Paul Ongili 'Babu Owino' (Embakasi East), Tj Kajwang (Ruaraka), George Aladwa (Makadara) and Tim Wanyonyi of Westlands.
The new faces included former Kiss Radio presenter Felix Odiwour, alias Jalang'o, who won the Lang'ata MP primaries, and Peter Orero, who won the Kibra nominations.
In Dagoretti North, CAS Gender Beatrice Elachi was given the ticket to succeed MP Simba Arati, who is running for Kisii governor.
Jubilee awarded tickets to incumbent MPs and new faces.
The incumbents include Ndirangu Waihenya of Roysambu, Mercy Gakuya (Kasarani) and Abdi Yussuf Hassan of Kamukunji.
New faces are former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, who is seeking to recapture the seat, Harrison Wangoro (Embakasi North), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), and Samuel Mwangi (Embakasi Central) and Amos Mwago (Starehe).
