Kura tells traders to vacate Mutindwa-Kifaru road reserve

Encroachers along the Mutindwa- Kifaru road have been given 30 days to vacate.

This comes as the Kenya Urban Roads Authority begins the Sh902.7 million   Umoja - Innercore 8km road project.

In a letter dated February 26, Kura's Director for Legal Services Peter Bosire said that although the project has started, sections of Mutindwa- Kifaru Road have been encroached on.

Works on the aforesaid project have begun and the contractor is now clearing the site and has at other sectors commenced the earthworks in readiness for the main carriage way, side drains and walkways construction, he said.

The encroached plots include A18/1 , A19/1, A20/1, A21/1, A22/1. A23/1,A2/1,A25/1,A26/1,A27/1,A28/1,A29/1,A30/1,A31/1,A32/1,A33/1,A34/1,A35//1,A36/1 and A37/1.

“To avoid any delay and inconvenience to the ongoing project, the plot owners are required to have surrendered the encroached portions of the road reserve of Mutindwa- Kifaru road as of March 29, 2021 ,” Bosire added.

He also noted that failure to act as directed will result in forcible removal of the plot owners and structures demolished at encroachers' cost by the Authority.

“Further note such acts in defiance of his notice shall additionally attract the institution of a criminal prosecution against yourselves as per the Section 49 (6) of the Kenya Road Act, 2007," Bosire added.

The letter was copied to the Umoja 2 MCA, Embakasi West MP, Deputy County Commissioner , Embakasi Sub County, Contractor and Officer Commanding Police Station in Umoja 2.

The 8km Umoja-Innercore road project will rehabilitate eight roads within Umoja and its environs.

Some of the roads include Ruaraka Crescent Road, Kangundo Moi Drive link, Malewa-Mwangaza Road, Nasra Estate Road, Kifaru-Mutindwa Road, Kangundo Service Road, Mowlem Link Road and Outer Ring Road links.

The contractor has been given a timeline and is expected to complete the project by November next year.
