Two boys aged 10 and 12 are nursing injuries after their penises were nearly chopped off by a 'quack' circumciser.
The minors from Antuambui village in
Igembe Central said suspect Job Murathi
and another man tied them up and put them in sacks before forcefully
circumcising them.
They
were treated at Nyambene Hospital where one was referred to ACK Anglican Hospital.
Murathi, 28, was arrested and taken to Laare police station pending arraignment.
Antwambui senior chief Gerald Kithia said reports indicated Murathi was drunk when he mutilated the boy's private parts on Thursday.
"I was called at 7 am...we arrested him...he has never practised circumcision," he told the press on Tuesday.
"We were forced to fundraise to take the boys to hospital. Residents wanted to lynch the suspect but we protected him."
Kithia noted that culturally, a Meru boy is required to be in seclusion during circumcision and should have traditional body markings of ochre.
