An-eight-year-old girl in Kyuso, Kitui county, who lost her leg after a road accident on September 2 is seeking help to attend school.
Mwende Musyoki’s left leg was amputated at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital after she was hit by a matatu on the Kyuso-Mwingi road.
Her elder brother Josephat Musyoki, 10, and younger sister Lucy Musyoki, five, died on the spot. They were buried last Saturday. The vehicle ran over a group five children as they walked to school.
The head teacher of Kandwia Primary School, where Mwende is in standard one, Philip Muthui, on Tuesday said she needs urgent help because she cannot walk to school. He said she would do well in a special school.
“She used to walk four kilometres to school. It is now impossible for her to trudge that distance,” Muthui said. He urged the government, the Kitui county, donors and well-wishers to assist her continue with her education.
Muthui spoke to journalists at Mwende’s home in Kandwia village. Her father Eric Musyoki, 38, is a carpenter and mason and her mother Elizabeth Muliwa is a housewife.
