Opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang'i, Eugene Wamalwa and Justine Muturi on Sunday put on a show of unity as they attended the official launch of an African Gospel Church (ATG) chapel in Mavoko, Machakos County.

The leaders arrived at the ATG Church's Kamulu chapel along Kangundo Road at about 12.30pm for the event hosted by Apostle Francis Musili.

Kalonzo, the Wiper Patriotic Front party leader, officially opened the church by cutting a ribbon before he, Matiang'i, Wamalwa and Muturi planted trees within the church compound.

The four leaders later signed the visitors' book in the pastor's office before joining hundreds of congregants for the Sunday service.

The event also attracted several elected leaders from Machakos and neighbouring areas, including Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi, Matungulu MP Stephen Mule and Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe, among others.

Mavoko parliamentary aspirant Ndaisi Kipanga was also present.

The opposition leaders joined congregants in an ongoing fundraiser aimed at buying the parcel of land on which the Kamulu church stands.

Church leaders said the fundraising drive will also support the construction of a permanent church.

By the time of publication, Kalonzo, Matiang'i, Wamalwa and Muturi had not addressed the congregation.
