Kalama Ward MCA Boniface Maeke Musyimi is staring at possible expulsion from his party, Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU), after its leadership accused him of openly backing a rival candidate in Mumbuni North by-election.
On September 24, Maeke was spotted campaigning for Harrison Wambua, the Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate, even as CCU fielded Richard Nzioki (popularly known as Mbolu) as its flagbearer.
In a strongly-worded statement, CCU Secretary General Sadjah Philippe cited Section 14 of the Political Parties Act, saying Maeke’s actions amounted to resignation by conduct.
He issued the MCA with a seven-day ultimatum to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
“Failure to respond will compel us to invoke the full force of the law, including notifying the Registrar of Political Parties for his removal from the party register,” Sadjah warned.
But Maeke has dismissed the move as a political witch-hunt. He accused Sadjah of acting on behalf of Machakos County Government, where he serves as an adviser.
“This is nothing but a political witch-hunt. CCU has clear and structured ways of handling internal matters. What is being done to me is not genuine,” Maeke said, adding that the Secretary General himself should “write a show-cause letter to himself for abdicating his duties while working closely with Wiper in Machakos.”
The MCA is no stranger to controversy. In 2023, he made headlines after Machakos County askaris subjected him to humiliation by stripping off his trousers, an incident that sparked public outrage and turned him into both a symbol of defiance and a target of political vendettas.

Despite his battles with CCU, Maeke has in recent months aligned himself with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Last Saturday, he joined the Head of State at a church service in Mitaboni, where the President rallied the faithful behind his economic transformation agenda.
Maeke has become a familiar figure at Kenya Kwanza events, often seen alongside Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, MPs Caleb Mule (Machakos Town) and Mwengi Mutuse (Kibwezi West), and even Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
For CCU, however, Maeke is a renegade whose defection threatens party discipline. But within Kenya Kwanza, he is viewed as a loyal foot soldier helping to entrench Ruto’s influence in Ukambani.
