
A heartbreaking tragedy has left the family of 11-year-old Jael Nabalayo in mourning after she drowned during a swimming activity in Syokimau.
What began as a school event ended in devastation, leaving the community in shock.
The Grade Six pupil, lost her life on 21 September 2025 at a swimming pool. She was taken to Veteran Mission Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Her family has announced that she will be laid to rest on 27 September in Kitale.
“As a family, we have lost, and we are just waiting to see that we get to understand how this happened, giving us a reprieve as a family,” said her father.
The school, through its legal representative, described the incident as “regrettable and unfortunate.” It added that the institution is fully cooperating with authorities to help establish the exact circumstances surrounding Jael’s death.
Parents and members of the wider community have expressed sorrow and called for stronger safety measures during school sporting activities to help prevent such tragedies in the future.
Investigations are ongoing, and the school has assured cooperation with the process.
