Man died by suicide while under alleged custody of Machakos county askaris

Police in Machakos are investigating an incident where a man died by suicide while under alleged custody of county askaris in unclear circumstances.

County police commander Patrick Lobolia said the man is said to have ended his own life at a holding room located at Machakos bus park.

The incident happened on Monday evening at the bus park located within Machakos Township.

"The officers from the Machakos county government arrested the deceased and placed him in the holding room where he reportedly committed suicide. We don't know why the man was arrested," Lobolia told the Star by phone shortly after the incident.

The police boss said they had launched probe into the incident.

The body was removed to a Machakos mortuary.
