Two women aged between 25-30 were on Tuesday morning killed by a suspected timber thief at Kiigene in Nkubu, South Imenti, Meru.

Eye witness Muthomi Mburugu said the deceased saw the suspect breaking into the workshop and before they could scream for help, the suspect realised they had seen him and he attacked.

"We are saddened by the brutal murder of two women. We are shocked to lose such young women. I heard screams on the road but I could not help in time. I only saw their bodies lying on the road," Mburugu said.

Mburugu urged security agencies to conduct thorough investigations that will lead to the arrest and arraignment of the suspect.

Kiigine assistant chief Joseph Muthuri condemned the killing assuring the public that his administration will ensure the killer is brought to book.

"The two were aged between 25-30. The suspect who killed them was seen by the two deceased women breaking into a workshop to steal. We will ensure we arrest the suspect," Muthuri said.

"I appeal to neighbours who might have any crucial information that could lead to the arrests to work with us to nail the suspect," he said.

The bodies were taken to Kanyakine Hospital Mortuary.
