ODM Nominated Senator Beth Syengo has announced that she will run for the Kitui Woman Representative seat during the 2027 general election.

Syengo said she will not seek to dethrone current Woman Rep Irene Kasalu, considering the incumbent has set her sights on the Kitui gubernatorial seat come 2027.

“You are aware that the Kitui woman representative will be contesting for governorship and therefore there should not be any void. I will thus be seeking your votes as the next Kitui Woman Representative,” the senator on Saturday.

“If the ODM leader Raila Odinga recognised my leadership qualities and prowess and nominated me a senator, I expect you as people of my home Kitui county to treat me more favorably by voting for me in the coming election,” she added.

Syengo spoke at Itivanzou village, home of Mwingi North MP Paul Nzengu, during a ceremony to celebrate the legislator's mother Lydia Kalekye for her dedication and service to the local community.

The event that was punctuated by song and dance was organised by a group of local professionals.

The team, dubbed Wazee Intuitive, was backed by community members honoured and showered the matriarch with varied goodies including clothing, utensils and cash.

The senator said her development score-record spoke for itself and that she would seek the elective position in order to serve the people better.

“I am not new to the people. I have continued to involve in development and given your mandate as an elected representative you stand to gain more,” Syengo said.

In 2007, the senator unsuccessfully tried to unseat the then Mwingi North Kalonzo Musyoka. She has been actively involved in ODM affairs rising to become the president of the party's women league.

The legislator also hailed the Wazee Initiative group for their drive to celebrate people who make positive impact on other people while they are still living.

“It is the height of ingenuity to moot the blitz to celebrate our heros and heroines while they are still alive. It has little impact to post-humously celebrate those who make a positive mark during their hey days,” she said.
