Meru Deputy Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia now says his life is in danger.

The Deputy Governor blamed the management of Meru County for his woes saying their relationship is irreconcilable.

Mutuma cited instances where he was invited to county cabinet meetings only to receive threats from some people not set foot in it.

“Saying my life is in danger would be the understatement of what is there. One of my bodyguards has withdrawn and returned for redeployment. I am being pressured to resign. Things are escalating from bad to worse,” he said.

The Deputy Governor spoke when he appeared before the Implementation Committee of the Meru County assembly on Wednesday.

Mutuma regretted that instead of leaders discussing issues on how to solve challenges of infrastructure, water connectivity, education, and job opportunities, they are focused on issues of less importance.

The Deputy Governor has in the past claimed that his office is no longer being facilitated to inspect projects and perform his other mandate.

“The county management has ignored to implement six recommendations adopted by the County assembly. I have not appeared at those meetings because it would turn out to be an avenue for insults, embarrassment and bullying,” Mutuma told.

Mutuma who fell out with Governor Kawira Mwangaza told the county assembly that he has tried reconciliation with the management of the county in vain.

He said despite him writing several inquiry letters to the Governor, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), the Senate and other relevant government agencies, nothing had been done to date.

“No fuel for my vehicle for mobility to attend meetings. No funds. They are yet to reinstate my PA and driver who were sacked. I was evicted from the spacious main office to corridors last year July and till to-date the office has no space for the secretariat and is not properly furnished," he said.

Implementation Committee chairman Aulerio Murangiri said the committee is ready to streamline bedevilling issues at their disposal.

“It is only this committee allowed to bite under standing orders 193,” Murangiri said.

Nominated MCA Gacheri Muthuri lamented over the frustrations the Deputy  Governor has been going through.

“I share the frustrations of working without a vehicle for a whole month despite him being duly elected deputy governor,” she said during the session.

Nominated MCA Kiriinya Mwenda said it is disrespect that the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee approved the six recommendations which were later adopted by all the MCAs but they have not been implemented and adhered to by the executive.

“MCAs gave seven days for the implementation but the executive has been disrespectful and disregarding not only to the DG but also the assembly. This is treating MCAs like a toothless dog and with an attitude of 'what will you do??'” Kiriinya said.

Municipality MCA Caleb Mutethia said the DG does not represent his interests but those of the Meru people.

“Put a strong face and take the bull by its horn. I think this assembly should bite,” he said.

Mutuma said that despite his vehicle breaking down and being forced to fuel it and repair it with money from his pocket, they tried to forcefully confiscate it but some youths blocked that.

“The lead youth was later clobbered and admitted at Karen hospital and taken to court for no wrongdoing."
