A section of youths in Makueni county has urged the need to support the county government in delivering its mandate as far as the climate change fight is concerned.

Led by youth leader and Kenya Private Universities Students Association  Secretary General Victor Mwalu, the youths lauded Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr for engaging the youth in matter governance.

"Our Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has set the bar high and demonstrated commendable leadership in addressing climate change challenges. The Governor on engaging with the youths has set an example for effective governance in tackling the climate crisis," Mwalu said.

The group spoke during a recent Climate Change Action event held in Makueni last week.

Mwalu lauded Governor Kilonzo Jnr for engaging and supporting youths in tackling climate change.

"Climate change anxiety among youths is a growing concern as young people grapple with the existential threat posed by environmental degradation and the uncertain future it entails," he said.

He at the same time, he called for institutions of higher learning to support counties and national government in addressing climate change.

He said this can be achieved by ensuring its students are equipped with knowledge concerning climate change.

"Higher institutions of learning play a crucial role in addressing this anxiety by providing education on climate science, resilience-building strategies, and coping mechanisms," he said.

"By integrating climate change education into curricula and offering support services such as counselling and mental health resources, institutions can empower students to channel their concerns into positive action."
